CROUSEVILLE – Lila Carvell Flewelling, 94, passed away April 2, 2011, at a Presque Isle health care facility. She was born Nov. 29, 1916, in Mapleton, daughter of Howard and Verna (McDonough) Carvell.

She graduated from Mapleton High School; Aroostook State Normal School, Presque Isle; and taught eight grades at a school on the Reach Road, Presque Isle, for two years. Later in life she worked at the employment office in Presque Isle. Lila devoted her life to her family and her many interests. She was a loving wife and mother, a meticulous homemaker, and a superb seamstress and needle woman. Her braided rugs, quilts embroidery and dolls are works of art. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, history and genealogy.

She was predeceased by her parents and siblings. Lila is survived by her husband, to whom she was married for nearly 73 years, Leo Flewelling; by two daughters, Sally Derrenbacher of Kennebunk and Ann Flewelling and her husband, Charles Read, of Sedgwick; by twin sons, Robert Flewelling and his wife, Janet Deihl, of Kensington, Calif., and Richard Flewelling and his partner, Mary Doran, of South Freeport; and three grandchildren, Kimberley D. Weiner and her partner, Jeff Souter, of Kennebunk, Frances and Anna Flewelling-Diehl of Kensington, Calif.

Visiting hours will be 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A reception will be held afterward at the Mission Building, Crouseville.
