CONCORD, N.H. – Mildred C. Squiers, 100, passed away peacefully Friday, April 1, 2011, at Havenwood, Concord, N.H. She was born May 6, 1910, in Augusta, daughter of Charles and Jennie (Blaisdell) Chapman.
She graduated from Cony High School and Gates Business College, Augusta. She worked as a bookkeeper for McLellan Stores and later for the Internal Revenue Service, Augusta. The family moved to Portland in 1958 and lived in the North Deering section. She worked as an accounts payable clerk for Noyes Tire Co., Portland and Westbrook, for 15 years, until her retirement in 1976. She and her husband relocated to New Hampshire in 1977. After living in Epsom, N.H., for 10 years they settled at Havenwood, where she participated in many activities. She loved doing handiwork, especially for other people. She made more than 100 ABC quilts, as well as many caps, booties and blankets for newborn babies at Concord Hospital. She was a member of Epsom Snowmobile Club, South Congregational Church and Eveready Circle for 24 years.
She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Kermit D. Squiers, in June 2010; and two brothers, Herbert and Harold Chapman. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Rosenthall and her husband, Louis, of Concord, N.H., and Patricia Visco and her husband, Paul, of Laconia, N.H.; six grandchildren, Charles Rosenthall and his wife, Nicki, of Manchester, N.H., Jennifer Fennelly and her husband, Adam, of Concord, N.H., Sarah Sloper and her husband, Robert, of Manchester, N.H., Melissa Rosenthall of Melbourne, Australia, Steven Visco and his wife, Anna, of Orono and Jeffery Visco of Newton Highlands, Mass.; seven great-grandchildren, Louis and Jack Rosenthall, William Sloper, Adam “AJ,” Tyler and Katelyn Fennelly and Thomas Visco; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Thomas Squiers of Augusta; and sister-in-law and best friend, Winifred Kimball of Augusta. The family thanks all the staff at Havenwood for the loving care they gave our mother in the many years she lived there.
A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at South Congregational Church, 27 Pleasant St., Concord, N.H. Committal will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, N.H.
