WINN – Ernest J. Coolong, 95, husband of Villa (Dunda) Coolong, passed away April 5, 2011, at a Lincoln health care facility. He was born Feb. 1, 1916, in Winn, the son of Raymond and Mable (Delair) Coolong.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served for four years as a staff sergeant, and later was employed at Great Northern Paper Co. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Winn, and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and his camp at Silver Lake. He was the most recent holder of the Golden Cane.

In addition to his loving wife of 64 years, Villa, he is survived by a son, Roger Coolong and his wife, Terri, of Lincoln, and grandchildren, Robert and Rebecca; a daughter, Lin Jester and her husband, Bob, of Idaho and granddaughters, Cindy Smith and Connie Decker; as well as great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Potter Brook Cemetery.
