LEVANT – Elwood A. Mason, 82, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 5, 1928, in Levant, the son of Donald and Florence (Hanscom) Mason.
Elwood was a lifelong resident of Levant and was a dairy farmer until 1992 when the family farm switched to raising Red Deer. He was a 50-year member of Kenduskeag Lodge No. 137 AF & AM, Kenduskeag; a 68-year member of Minerva Grange; and he spent many years on Levant Fire Department and Levant Planning Board, and served as the town moderator for many years. Elwood also served on a number of agricultural committees. He will always be remembered as a hard working, well-liked and honest man.
Elwood is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Phyllis (Townsend) Mason; sons, Dennis Mason and his wife, Cecelia, of Winterport, Carl Mason and his wife, Brenda, of Levant, Fred Mason II and his wife, Nancy, of Levant and Kenneth Mason and his wife, Ronna, of Levant; daughter, Melissa Musinski and her husband, Joseph, of Hudson; brothers, Richard Mason and his wife, Edith, of Gorham and Virgil Mason and his wife, Audrey, of Levant; sister, Grace Mason of Oregon; grandchildren, Phillip, Jessica, Paul, Stephanie, Jennifer, Fred III, Travis, Destiny, Nikole, Joseph, Sara and Robert; and great-grandchildren, Natalie, Carter, Alexis, Fred IV, Danielle, Alexander and two more due in September. He was predeceased by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at a time and date to be announced at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
