PERRY – Edgar L. “Bruce” Quinn, 89, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Calais Regional Hospital. Bruce was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Eastport, son of the late Chester and Eva (McConnell) Quinn.

After attending Eastport area schools, he went to the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp, Princeton, to help build roads. Bruce enlisted in the U.S. Army Dec. 13, 1941, serving his country in World War II. On Aug. 2, 1944, he was injured in combat in the European Theater, earning many awards, including the Purple Heart. Bruce returned home and moved to Lubec, where he worked in the sardine factories and drove bus for the employees. Later he drove truck for DiCenzo’s until his retirement. Bruce also ran a beef cattle farm in Perry for many years, and enjoyed hunting, traveling and farming. He was a member of Sherman Bros. Post No. 3 American Legion, Calais, and Passamaquoddy Memorial Post No. 11299 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Perry.

In addition to his parents, Bruce was predeceased by two daughters, Carolyn Francis and Shirley Homan; a son, Philip Quinn; two grandsons, Stanley and Chester Quinn; several brothers and sisters. Surviving are his loving wife, Margaret (Cox) Quinn of Perry; four children, Patricia Degen and her husband, James, of Poland, Chester Quinn of Calais, Gary Quinn and his wife, Pauline, of Machias and Richard Quinn of Bangor; eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Perry Bible Fellowship, Route 1, Perry. A military graveside service will be afterward at Clarkside Cemetery, Pembroke. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at
