PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – John M. Hardy, 80, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla. John was born Nov. 25, 1930, in Langhorne, Pa., and moved to Port Charlotte, Fla., in 2004 from North Fort Myers, Fla.

He graduated in 1948 from John Bapst High School, Bangor. He grew up on Great Pond in Hancock County, and later went to college at the University of Maine, Orono, where he graduated Delta Tau Delta with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1956. He was a Korean War veteran who served proudly for four years with the U.S. Navy. John was an avid fisherman and hunter. He treasured going RV-ing with his wife all over the U.S., particularly in Alaska. He regularly traveled to Europe for work related business involving international shipping for United Shoe Machinery Corp. He was a wonderful husband, father, uncle and friend, and will be missed exceedingly by all who loved and knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Lea Hardy; his son, Robert Clark Hardy of Derry, N.H.; a sister, Pauline Tony of Fairbanks, Alaska; several nieces and nephews.
