LUDLOW, Vt. – Shirley E. Farquhar, 88, formerly of Proctorsville, Vt., died Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Springfield Hospital. She was the last and youngest of nine siblings. Shirley was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Monson, daughter of Robert and Anna (Moore) Zimmerman.
She received her education and graduated from Monson Academy in 1939. Shirley was married to James Farquhar May 31, 1941, in Lincoln, before moving to Proctorsville, Vt., in 1953. Shirley was employed at Kenwood Mills and later at Gill Home, Ludlow, Vt., for several years. She was an ardent supporter of The Animal Rescue and Protection Society of Chester, Vt., and loved animals and bird watching. She also enjoyed spending time with her special friends and extended family – especially Gabriel, her great-grandson; and Seairra, her great-granddaughter. “As a child you were my best friend. You always believed in me and supported me no matter what.”
Survivors include her son, James Farquhar Jr. and his wife, Ginger, of Proctorsville, Vt.; three daughters, Margaret Wright and husband, Richard, of Vershire, Vt., Barbara Farquhar of Sebastian, Fla., and Tracey Farquhar and Matt VanAlstyne of Proctorsville, Vt.; two grandchildren, Sarah Wright Swaine and husband, Peter, of Vershire, Vt., and Jim Farquhar of Kittery; a great-grandson, Gabriel Swaine; numerous stepgrandchildren, great-stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.
