MONTICELLO – J. Walter Delong, 76, died April 15, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Oct. 6, 1934, in Monticello, the son of Elbridge and Dorothy (Hanning) Delong.

Walter attended Monticello schools and was a 1953 graduate of Houlton High School. He was a longtime Monticello farmer and also worked for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad. His family will miss his strong leadership, loving guidance and honest support.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Homchuck) Delong of Monticello; two daughters, Debra Madigan and her husband, Jack, of Cumberland and Valerie DeLong and her husband, Keith, of Mapleton; three sons, Fred of Mars Hill, Joe and his wife, Pam, of Auburn and Allen of Brunswick; three brothers, Leon of Washington state, Alvin of Virginia and Gary of New Hampshire; two sisters, Pat McGowan of Scarborough and Candice Muehleisan of Cumberland; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Joy Keough; and a brother, Vincent, “Bud.”

Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of service 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Funeral Home. A time of fellowship will be held after the service at Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum.
