ORRINGTON – Phyllis B. Lawrence, 82, wife of the late Charles G. Lawrence, died April 17, 2011, at a Bangor health care facility, after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Bangor, the daughter of Ruel V. and Lillian M. (Jones) Bragg.
Phyllis was director of social services at the Salvation Army for 28 years and was active in all aspects of the Army, including a volunteer Bible teacher. She enjoyed reading and traveling with her sister, Lillian. Phyllis also enjoyed the Senior Y Fitness Program. She was a loving and devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was predeceased by a son, Gordon C. “Butch” Lawrence. Surviving are two children, Phillip H. Lawrence and his wife, Cynthia, of Trenton and George B. Lawrence and his wife, Elizabeth, of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Jason Lawrence, Michelle Lawrence, Joshua Lawrence and his wife, Andrea, Alissa Mitchell and her husband, Stephen, Heather Panko and her husband, Jim, and Kevin Lawrence and his wife, Charlene; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles A. Bragg of Bangor, Ruel V. Bragg of Exeter and Eugene P. Bragg of Orrington; one sister, Lillian F. White of Brunswick; former daughter-in-law, Cheryl Cropley and her children, Toni and Jeffery; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where relatives and friends are invited to call noon until the time of service. The family invites folks for conversation and refreshments after the service at the Salvation Army, 65 South Park St., Bangor.
