BANGOR – Carol C. Needham, 72, passed away peacefully April 23, 2011, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Sept. 10, 1938, in Bangor, the daughter of John E. and Sadye (McClay) Coney.
Carol was a lifelong resident of Bangor and a 1956 graduate of John Bapst High School. She graduated from Mount Saint Mary College, Hooksett, N.H., Class of 1960. After graduation Carol taught second grade at Mary Snow School, Bangor. On Feb. 9, 1963, she married Thomas E. Needham in Bangor. They celebrated 48 years of marriage in February. Carol was actively involved in her community. She was a member of Junior League of Bangor, Shakespeare Club, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and Community Concerts. She also served on the boards of YWCA and Amicus. Carol lived life to the fullest and enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends. Later in her life, one of her greatest joys was spending time with her six grandchildren, who lovingly nicknamed her “Dee.” Many happy memories were created with them, both at her pool and at Dee and Pa’s “Sugar House.” During the past 25 years, many of her fondest moments were the celebrations she shared with The “BLT” Group.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Thomas E. Needham of Bangor; son, Thomas E. Needham Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Andover, Mass.; daughters, Susan N. Boisvert and her husband, Jeffrey, of Bangor and Amy N. Cammack of Laconia, N.H.; six grandchildren, William R. Needham, Thomas E. Needham III “Tripp,” Allison E. Boisvert, Jonathan N. Boisvert, W. Alexander Cammack and Nathan T. Cammack; brother, John E. Coney Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, of Windham; her twin sister, Priscilla C. Quinn and her husband, Bill, of Bangor; brother-in-law, John H. Needham Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Cape Elizabeth; many nieces and nephews. Carol was predeceased by her parents. The family expresses a special thank-you to her friend and caregiver, Jeanette Lord, and to the nurses and staff at Westgate Manor for their loving care of Carol and support to our family.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 25, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share memories and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the interment.
