LITTLE DEER ISLE – Beryl Genice Powers, 90, passed peacefully Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, surrounded by her family, at home. She was born Sept. 16, 1920, the daughter of Willie B. and Iva (Davis) Morey.

She graduated valedictorian of her class in 1938. She married John Powers in 1939 and spent her life being a wonderful wife, mother to nine children, and a special nanny to many, many more.

Beryl is survived by seven daughters, Ethelda Eaton, Karyl and Everett Eaton, Cheryl and Richard Robinson, Linda Gross, Dale and Dewey Robbins, Annette and Robert Wheaton, and Barbara and Timothy Hutchinson; one son, David Powers and his partner, Glenn Watson; a son-in-law, Norman Billings and his wife, Norma; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a special sister-in-law, Beatrice Gray; and two special extra daughters, Lorena Whitmore and Sue Dorr. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John E. Powers; a brother, Ethelbert Morey; a sister, Gwendolyn Knowlton; a daughter, Brenda Billings; a granddaughter, Genice Hutchinson; and a son-in-law, Byron Gross.

Beryl will be brought to her home in Little Deer Isle, where friends and family are welcome to visit after 4 p.m. Tuesday and all day Wednesday. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 28, at Gray’s Hill Cemetery, Little Deer Isle. Donations may be sent in her memory to Deer Isle Fire Department, P.O.
