CHARLESTON – Joseph A. Hagelin, 81, husband of Marjorie (Higgins) Hagelin, died April 28, 2011, at his home. He was born March 8, 1930, in Concord, son of Joseph F. and Esther (Wood) Hagelin.

Joe attended Dover-Foxcroft and Charleston schools and then served in the Merchant Marines. He worked on military bases as a carpenter for many years, and then went into business for himself. He owned and operated Charleston Construction Co. for more than 30 years. Joe belonged to Charleston Fire Department, acting as treasurer; he was also a past selectman for the town of Charleston, a past Boy Scout master and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 124, Charleston.

He was predeceased by his father in 1957, his mother in 1960, two brothers and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Charleston; his children, Dennis of Florida, Joan of Texas and Jeffrey of Dover-Foxcroft; two sisters, Ruth Gile of California and Alice Herring of Dover-Foxcroft; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He also leaves several nieces and nephews; two stepchildren, Donald Perkins and his wife, Donna, of Montana and Donna McEwen and her husband, Kevin, of Charleston; three stepgrandchildren and two great-stepgrandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, in the family lot at Corinthian Cemetery with Pastor Lloyd Rozelle officiating.
