PRESQUE ISLE – Rupert “Earl” Brown 86, a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient, died April 28, 2011, surrounded by family and friends. Earl, son of Rupert and Ellen (Roix) Brown, was born Nov. 23, 1924, in Mapleton.
Along with his parents, Earl was predeceased by his wife, Audrey (Shaw) Brown; and two brothers, Duane and Maxwell Brown. He is survived by one brother, Lewis Brown of Louisville, Texas; two daughters,
Earla Haggerty and husband, Dennis, of Skowhegan, and Cindy Kaiser and husband, David, of Presque Isle; one son, Timothy and wife, Connie (Ellis), of Sevierville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends, especially at Leisure Gardens where he will be missed as one of the “wheelchair warriors”; and his best friend, Frank Whittaker. As veterans they spent a lot of great times running about the town.
Earl and Audrey were owners and operators of Brown’s Bakery for 13 years in Presque Isle and they also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for 15 years.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Pentecostal Church, 53 Wilson St., Presque Isle. Interment service with a military Honor Guard will be 9 a.m. Monday, May 2. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Meals on Wheels program through Aroostook Area Agency on Aging.
