PRESQUE ISLE – Anna Edith (Archer) Tompkins, 89, passed away April 28, 2011, with her daughter, Shirley and son-in-law, Jose, by her side, at home. She was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Castle Hill.
Anna was a homemaker, a volunteer for the elderly and for 30 years an ice cream vendor under the grandstand at the Northern Maine Fair. She loved the potato harvest and looked forward to picking potatoes every autumn in her youth.
She was predeceased by her husband, Willis “Buck” Tompkins Sr.; her daughter, Linda Katherine (Denbow) Brymer; and 10 of her siblings. Anna is survived by her son, Willis Tompkins Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, of Madison, Wis.; and her daughter, Shirley (Tompkins Haralson) Velasquez and her husband, Jose, of Presque Isle. Shirley lovingly lived with her and cared for her when she could no longer care for herself in the final years of her life. She also leaves seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed. The family appreciates the care provided by Elder Independence of Maine, hospice, and health care workers, Vicky, Marisa, Terry and Sharon; as well as her nurse, Lisa.
Interment will take place later in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels program at Aroostook Area Agency on Aging. Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Condolences may be expressed at
