MONROE and WINTERPORT – Wesley F. Brown Sr., 83, died Thursday, April 28, 2011, with his family by his side at a Bangor health care facility after a long illness. He was born May 19, 1927, in Etna, son of Woodrow A. and Myrtle F. (Tinker) Brown.
Wes attended Dixmont schools until he was drafted into the Army and served in World War II. Upon returning from the service, he worked for Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut for three years before returning home to Maine, where he owned and operated Monroe Poultry Farms, which he ran for 30 years raising and selling chickens, and where he met many friends. Wes Sr. was actively involved in Maine Harness Racing for 30 years, owning his own horses and helping Wes Jr. with his horse stable. His favorite place was going to Presque Isle fair to race, and meeting all of his friends in the harness racing community.
He is survived by his seven children: his daughter, Dorothy J. Malena and her husband, Joe, of Masardis; his son, Wesley F. Brown Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Carmel; his son, Wayne W. Brown of Winterport; his daughter, Amber A. Fawson and her husband, Rodney, of Tamworth N.H.; his son, Wilbur N. Brown of Bangor; his daughter, Andrea A. Stewart and her husband, Peter, of Bucksport; and his daughter, Katherine M. Brown of Winterport; one sister, Barbara Marcho of Old Town; 13 grandchildren, Travis Malena and his wife, Annemarie, Thomas Malena, Brian Jeffries and his wife, Jennifer, Ashley Brown, Spencer and Seth Brown, Josh and Jennifer Fawson, Brett and Melissa Brown, Jacob and Matthew Stewart, and Erica Marsters; great-grandchildren, Blake, Emily and Bryce Jeffries; many nieces and nephews; and by the mother of his children, Evelyn J. Brown. He was predeceased by one sister, Alyce Higgins; four brothers, Clifford, Paul, Floyd and Perry; and brother-in-law, Roger Miller.
Visiting hours will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Interment will be at Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Monroe. Donations may be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 170 U.S. Route One, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105.
