BANGOR – Janet Lee Titus Davis died April 19, 2011, at Fletcher Allen Medical Intensive Care Unit, Burlington, Vt., after a brief illness. Blanch Titus, Janet’s mother, resides at Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid, N.Y., where Janet and her husband, the Rev. Clifton Davis, would visit during six-week periods before returning to Bangor for the same amount of time. This pattern of caregiving continued throughout the past three years.

Janet was predeceased by her father, James Titus; her brother-in-law, Lew Staats; and her sister, Lorainne Staats. Janet leaves her husband of 54 years; and their sons, Gregory and his wife, Karen, and Glenn and his wife, Mary, and their sons, Benjamin and Jared. From the Adirondacks, Janet leaves nieces, Lori Martin and her daughter, Lorissa, and Lisa Bimonte and her daughter, Elizabeth; and nephew, James Staats.

Janet’s introduction to Bangor was as a student wife associated with Bangor Theological Seminary. They lived in the library of the Waldo Pierce House for nearly four years, before moving to Concord, N.H., where Cliff was installed in East Concord United Church of Christ. After four years there, a call came from Bangor Seminary where Janet became a faculty wife for 35 years. She entered into the life of the seminary by opening her home to students and into the community through work as office manager for oral surgeons, and later, on the most recent campaign for Bangor Public Library.

A graveside committal service will be held 9 a.m. Friday, May 6, at Mount Hope Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at All Souls Congregational Church, corner of State Street and Broadway, Bangor. A time for refreshments and conversation will be after the service. Gifts may be given in Janet’s memory to Greyhound Placement Service, All Souls Church Hymnal Fund or to a charity of your choice.
