PORTLAND, Maine — The Coast Guard says it came to the rescue of a 55-foot recreational vessel that was taking on water about a mile from the mouth of the Kennebec River in Maine.
A Coast Guard boat and helicopter responded Sunday to a report from the two-person crew on the vessel Phoenix. They issued a distress call reporting their boat was flooding.
The Coast Guard boat arrived on the scene shortly after noon, boarded the Phoenix with a pump and successfully dewatered the vessel. The helicopter, which was diverted from a routine patrol in the area, lowered a second pump at about 12:30 p.m.
There were no reports of injuries, and the cause of the flooding was unknown.
The Coast Guard escorted the Phoenix to the Boothbay Harbor shipyard.
