VERONA ISLAND – Leola C. Meade, 98, died Saturday, April 30, 2011, in Belfast. She was born Dec. 2, 1912, in Orland, the daughter of Capt. Roy A. and Ethel (Hopkins) Meade.
Leola enjoyed television, especially reruns of the Lawrence Welk Show, knitting and working in the flower garden. She also loved the holidays with family.
Leola is survived by one brother, Durward Meade of Verona Island. She was a beloved aunt to Claudia Gilbert and Nonie Varnum; several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; one brother, Fred Meade; and six sisters, Corinne Gilbert, Hildred McIntyre, Thelma Meade, Phyllis Meade, Muriel Meade and Elinor Meade.
Visitation for family and friends will be 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Linda A. Smith officiating. Interment will be after the funeral at Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport.
