SEARSPORT – Edith V. Jackson Verrill, 90, died May 1, 2011, at a Belfast hospital. She was born March 11, 1921, in Searsport, the daughter of Clifford and Winifred (Fredericks) Jackson.
After graduating from Searsport High School, she worked in Boston while living with her sister, Hazel. Upon returning to Searsport, she worked many years for her brother, Clifford, and later in life as a caregiver to numerous friends and relatives. Edith enjoyed being outside taking long walks, working in her yard and feeding the birds.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Verrill, who died in 1972; her four brothers, Warren “Skipper” Jackson, Clifford Jackson, Alton Jackson and Harrison “Bunny” Jackson; her two sisters, Hazel Greenlaw and Mildred Jackson; a niece, Dorothy Zito and two nephews, Earle Jackson and Harrison Hahn. She is survived by her five nieces, Charlene Read and Hazel Pendleton of Belfast, Patty Clark of Searsport, Judy Choate of Wellsville, N.Y., and Jackie Jackson of East Hampton, Conn.; her three nephews, Eugene “Biff” Greenlaw of Stockton Springs, Edwin “Bing” Greenlaw of Thorndike and Richard Jackson of Searsport; special great-nephew, Edwin “Buddy” Greenlaw III; many great-nephews and great-nieces; special lifelong friend, Dr. Ellen Fuller; dear friends, Jennifer Rich, Chuck and Lila Sheefel and Wayne Hamilton, all of Searsport; and her wonderful friends and staff at Tall Pines, who enriched the last year of her life. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. May 21 at Gordon Cemetery, Searsport. Per her wishes, there will be no visiting hours.
