BUCKSPORT – Frederick L. Wasson, known to all as Bim, died April 30, 2011, at his home. He was born May 11, 1920, the son of George H. Wasson and Daisy (Gott) Wasson.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Germany and France in the 294th Signal Corps, landing at Normandy Beach, and was recipient of the Purple Heart. Bim was an incredibly hard worker. In addition to working 30 years in the Bucksport paper mill, he worked his farm, raised beef cattle, cut meat and worked in the woods. He loved playing with tractors and was the happiest when he was with Langdon working in the woods.

Bim is survived by three daughters, Diane Chandler of Bucksport, Meredith Shaw of Albuquerque, N.M., and Luann Wasson of Bucksport; sons-in-law, Langdon Chandler and George Shaw; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother, George “Hornet” Wasson Jr. of Bucksport; and one sister, Doris Knight of Katy, Texas. Bim was predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Florence Mildred Wasson; and two sisters, Aline (Wasson) Maccirio and Margaret (Wasson) King. Bim’s kind spirit and sense of humor will be missed by all.

A memorial service with military honors will be held noon Wednesday, May 11, at the chapel of Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
