ALEXANDER – Ronald Phillip Renaud, 62, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Calais Regional Hospital. Ronald was born March 10, 1949, in Waite, son of Norman and Ida (Thornton) Renaud.

After graduating from Princeton High School in 1966, he continued his education at the University of Maine at Machias, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Ronald began his teaching career in Houlton. He received his master’s degree and Certificate of Advanced Studies from the University of Maine, Orono. He moved to Calais and became dean of students at what is now Washington County Community College. Later, he served as president from 1983 until his retirement in 1996. After his retirement, Ronald continued to teach at the college and was an educational consultant until his death. In March 2001, he received the Emeritus Award from the Maine Community College System. Ronald was a member of many organizations, including Crescent Lodge No. 78 AF & AM, Pembroke; Lions Club, Rotary and the board of trustees with Calais Regional Hospital.

He was predeceased by his father, Norman Renaud; paternal grandparents, John and Vera Renaud; and his maternal grandparents, Verne and Leona Thornton. Surviving are his loving wife of 39 years, Linda (Ross) Renaud; two daughters, Michelle Renaud of Alexander, and Denise Renaud Larlee and her husband, Brett, of New Auburn; his mother, Ida Renaud of Waite; sister, Bonnie Tibbetts and her husband, Bob; two brothers, Richard Renaud and his wife, Marilyn, and Robert Renaud, all of Waite; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Phil and Mavis Ross of Leesburg, Fla.; sister-in-law, Gail VanFleet and her husband, Dutch, of Mississippi; brother-in-law, Gary Ross and his wife, Judy, of Oregon; many dear nieces and nephews, several very special aunts, uncles and cousins; and many special friends, Dave Rowe, Jerome Andrews and cousin, Randall Ripley. Ronald will also be missed by his faithful canine companion, Pokey.
