DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — The annual bicycle safety rodeo will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Kiwanis Park, sponsored by the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club.

The rodeo is open to all children and will feature a bicycle inspection and obstacle course. The first 64 fourth-grade pupils to enter will receive a new bicycle helmet from the club. All participants will be eligible for a drawing for a new bicycle donated by Dover True Value.

Abbot to hold special town meeting

ABBOT, Maine — A special town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, May 16, to elect a selectman.

Matthew St. Laurent resigned from his selectman post after he accepted a job in April as the Greenville Police Department’s second-in-command.

A public hearing will be held after the town meeting to discuss whether the town should proceed with a comprehensive plan.

Annual cookout for Thayer Parkway residents set by Kiwanis

DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — Hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and desserts are on tap for Thayer Parkway residents, a senior citizen housing complex, during a May 18 cookout sponsored by the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club.

The Kiwanis serves dinner twice a year to the residents as a thank you for their lifetime of service to the community. In the fall, the club will sponsor a boiled dinner.

Volunteers spruce up downtown Dexter

DEXTER, Maine — The Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis, Dexter Key Club and the Modern Woodmen of America held a joint cleanup on April 30 in the downtown area.

About 20 people from the organizations picked up a truckload of trash from the community and swept the area around the Grist Mill Museum.

Each year, Kiwanis International encourages Kiwanis clubs to team with other organizations to    do service projects. Anyone interested in joining next year, should contact any Kiwanis Club or Key Club member.
