BANGOR – Clifford Douglas Wetmore II, 85, husband of the late Phyllis (Rose) Wetmore, died May 12, 2011, at Maine Veterans Home. He was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Houlton, son of Clifford Douglas and Annie Kathleen (Britton) Wetmore.
Clifford was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War, retiring as a technical sergeant.
After military retirement he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, Bangor, retiring after 20 years of service. Clifford was a commissioner of Katahdin Area Council Boy Scout of America, taught shooting sports at Camp Roosevelt, and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver and James E. West awards. He was a life member of National Rifle Association, Penobscot County Conservation Club, Brewer, Elks Lodge No. 244, Bangor, and Eagles Club, Brewer.
Surviving are three children, C. Douglas Wetmore III of New York, Kathy Trask, his favorite daughter, and her husband, Bob, of Bangor and Kenneth D. Wetmore and his wife, Pat, of New York; seven grandchildren, Robert, James, Kiley, Frankie, Kypp, C. Douglas IV and Shauna; nine great-grandchildren; his twin brother, Allison K. Wetmore and his wife, Helen, of Florida; nieces and nephews; and his closest friends, Charles and Mary Carol Rumsey of Bangor. In addition to his wife, Phyllis, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Michelle; baby brother, Billie; and two sisters, Doris and Sharon.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Penobscot County Conservation Club, 570 North Main St., Brewer, immediately after the service Saturday.
