ORLAND – Helen M. Roderick, 88, died May 11, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Denver, the daughter of Walter and May Pruitt.

Helen worked for St. Regis, Bucksport, until retiring in 1984, and moved to California to join Ed in real estate. Her hobbies included golfing, organic gardening, composting, knitting, crossword puzzles and genealogy. She was an avid reader and was a member of Mensa. Her sharp wit, great sense of humor and beauty were evident to the very end.

Helen is survived by her children, Ed Rogers and wife, Ingrid, of Bullhead City, Ariz., Cynthia Strout and Rick McClellan of Hollis, Charlotte Saucier and husband, Jerry, of Carmel and Patti Wilson of Belfast; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Roderick; and stepson, Frank Rogers. The family gives a special thanks to the following people for their kind and compassionate care of their mother: Nan, Deb, Annette, Joyce, Mary, Angie and Valerie from Hospice of Hancock County and to Kelly of One Step.

At Helen’s request, there will be no services. Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to Hospice of Hancock County, 14 McKenzie Ave., Ellsworth, ME 04605. Arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
