NORTHEAST HARBOR – Sheila Louise (Norwood) Graves, 85, known as Mamie by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, died peacefully May 15, 2011, with family by her side at Mount Desert Island Hospital. She was born March 8, 1926, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Douglas R. and Ruth E. (Haskell) Norwood.

Sheila graduated salutatorian of Gilman High School before attending a business school in Boston. While working there she met her husband of 63 years, Bob. After she and her husband moved back to Mount Desert Island she worked for the Rockefellers, Bar Harbor Banking & Trust, and did private bookkeeping. She was a member of Union Church of Northeast Harbor, where she had taught Sunday school, was part of the church guild and enjoyed singing in the choir. She enjoyed reading, sewing, baking and knitting. Sheila’s family was the center of her life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sheila leaves behind her daughter, Ann Paine and husband, Bill; her son, Alan Graves and wife, Doreen, all of Northeast Harbor; daughter-in-law, Christine Graves of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Brian Graves and wife, Heather, of Trenton, Laura Kilko and husband, Tom, of Mount Holly Springs, Pa., Melissa Saunders and husband, Keith, of Fleming Island, Fla., Alicia Paine of Brunswick, John Paine of Northeast Harbor, Crystal Bonias and husband, Bobby, of Epping, N.H., Heather Brown and husband, Jay, of Northeast Harbor and Jennifer Graves of Northeast Harbor; eight great-grandchildren, Andrew and Caroline Saunders, Ashley and Brendan Graves, Ella and Tristan Kilko, Fiona Brown and Baby Bonias, who will be arriving shortly; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind a stepsister, Bette Douglas of Bar Harbor; sister-in-law, Nancy Trask of Old Saybrook, Conn.; brother-in-law, Richard Graves and wife, Mary Jane, of Ellsworth; and brother-in-law, Malcolm Graves of Lisbon, Conn. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; sons, John and Steven; a stepsister, Barbara Boyer; and a stepbrother, Vincent Donnell.

Private graveside services will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor. Those who desire may make contributions in Sheila’s memory to Mount Desert Nursing Association, P.O.
