SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Mary J. Soares, 92, died May 16, 2011, at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. She was born July 10, 1918, in Bucyrus, Ohio, the daughter of Harley and Edith Baum.
Mary served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, being a military wife and traveling with her husband, Frank, for 24 years, and caring for her children. She married Francis C. Soares Jr. of Honolulu in New York City.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Frank; two sons, Francis III of South China, Maine, and Thomas of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a daughter, Carolyn of Bar Harbor; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
