MEDWAY, Mass. – The Rev. T. Alton Stewart, 101, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at his home. The Rev. Stewart was born March 23, 1910, in Millvale, Nova Scotia, son of the late Alvard T. and Katherine (Purdy) Stewart.
He had been a resident of Medway, Mass., for the past 15 years, formerly of Florida and Maine. He was a longtime member of Bethany Community Church, Mendon, Mass. He enjoyed woodworking, reading and letter writing. In his hundredth year he wrote more than 500 eloquent letters to family and friends. He was a devoted father, grandfather and friend.
He was the former husband of the late Luella; beloved father of Katherine Joyce Stewart Wickett of Medway, Mass., Grace S. Stewart Tucker of South Portland, Muriel G. Stewart Ouellette of Pittsfield, and the late Sherman D., David A. and Marla Rae Stewart Sampson; and devoted grandfather of numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxborough, Mass. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Bethany Community Church, 15 Cape Road, Route 140, Mendon, Mass. An interment service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, May 23, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hermon. In lieu of flowers, donations in the Rev.
