WATERVILLE – Hazel Dawn (Little) Hunt, 93, passed away peacefully May 16, 2011, at Woodlands, Waterville. She was born March 14, 1918, in Baileyville, the youngest daughter of Calvin A. and Lura (Twombly) Little.
She graduated as valedictorian from Frankfort High School, Frankfort, and from Eastern Maine General Hospital, Bangor, as a registered nurse in 1939. On Sept. 13, 1941, she married Orman P. Hunt, who died in 2002. They spent most of their married life in Skowhegan – he was co-owner of Hunt’s Dairy – where they raised their four children. She worked part time at Redington Fairview General Hospital, retiring in 1977. Hazel was a dedicated wife, mother and friend who enjoyed her family, cooking, sewing, knitting, making quilts, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and Scrabble. She was also an avid fan of the Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox.
She is survived by her four children, Barbara D. Clark and her husband, Kirby, of Dracut, Mass., Carolyn A. Sawyer of Danvers, Mass., Rebecca H. Swaffield and her husband, William, of Wolfeboro, N.H., and Daniel M. Hunt and his wife, Theresa, of Bloomington, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Gretchen L. Clark, Allison R. (Clark) Hopkins, Garrett D. Sawyer, Stephanie J. (Sawyer) LeBlanc, William H. Swaffield Jr., Whitney E. (Swaffield) Walker, Michelle L. Hunt and Danielle M. Hunt; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother and sister, Thurlow Little and Geraldine Ritchie; and her beloved granddaughter, Hilary R. Swaffield.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Federated Church, Island Avenue, Skowhegan. The family requests that no flowers be sent. Gifts in her memory may be sent to The Lighthouse Hospice Foundation, 45 Commerce Drive, Suite 12-A, Augusta, ME 04330.
