SEDGWICK – Nellie E. (Gray) Smith, 94, died peacefully May 18, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was born March 25, 1917, in Sedgwick, daughter of John and Annie (Pert) Gray.
She married Milton O. Smith and after raising their family in Dorchester, Mass., they returned to Maine and started Country View Drive-In in 1963, which they ran for 40 years. Nellie was a great knitter, and made sweaters and afghans for the entire family. She loved crafts of all kinds and loved doing them with her grandchildren, as well as baking. Her greatest accomplishments were as a devoted wife, caring mother and loving grandmother. Her grandson, George, had cared for her at home for several years. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Nellie is survived by her three sons, Gordon Smith and wife, Carole, of Folsom, Calif., George Smith and wife, Helen, of Southbury, Conn., and John Smith and wife, Kathleen, of Avon, Mass.; 10 grandchildren, Debbie, Sherry, George, David, Jim, John, Heidi, Michael, Kevin and Terry; nine great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Muriel DeRosier of Orland and Eleanor Davis of Holbrook, Mass. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton O. Smith; and a son, Walter Smith.
