BANGOR and TUCSON, Ariz. – Richard L. Field, M.D., 80, passed away May 21, 2011. Born July 13, 1930, in Beverly, Mass., Richard was the son of Alice (Fiske) and Walter Field.

He graduated from Beverly High School in 1948 and Tufts University in 1952. Richard served in the Navy for three years after college. He married Ann Louise Horsman, in 1953, while in the Navy. He attended Tufts University Medical School and graduated in 1959. After completing an internship at Dartmouth Medical School, Richard established a private practice from 1962 to 1969 on Mount Desert Island. He finished a radiology residency in Burlington, Vt., and practiced at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, and the hospital in Dover-Foxcroft from 1972 to 1984, until his retirement. Richard was an excellent diagnostician and enjoyed his many patients. In 1992, Richard moved to Tucson, Ariz., with Ann and began working as a docent at Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The museum was a wonderful conduit for his insatiable curiosity and quest for knowledge. His interest in birds, animals and science never wavered. He and Ann were able to travel and explore many interests before her death in 2007. Richard continued to spend summers on Branch Lake working in his garden and reconnecting with dear friends.

Richard was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Ann. He is survived by his four children, Jeffrey Thomas Field, Douglas Field and his wife, Rose, Martha Rayder and her husband, Michael, and Sarah Roach and her husband, Donald; and eight grandchildren.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be sent to Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, 2021 North Kinney, Tucson, AZ 85743. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at
