Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor says she received nearly $1.2 million to write a memoir of her rise from a South Bronx housing project to the nation’s highest court. Sotomayor reported the payment for the as-yet untitled book from Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group in an annual report of personal finances, released Friday for the justice and her eight colleagues. Knopf revealed last July that Sotomayor had agreed to write the memoir, but the size of the advance had not been public. The book will come out simultaneously in English and in Spanish, but no release date has been set. Sotomayor is the court’s first Hispanic justice. Her parents moved from Puerto Rico to New York after World War II. Justice Clarence Thomas also received more than $1 million in advance of the publication of his book, “My Grandfather’s Son,” in 2007. … After building a name for himself in the South Korean film and TV industries in the past decade, Kwon Sang-woo is setting his sights on another booming Asian entertainment market — China. The 34-year-old actor is currently shooting “Repeat, I Love You,” a Chinese-language romance alongside Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung, in Shenzhen, China. He will next join the Jackie Chan project “Chinese Zodiac.” Kwon told reporters Friday during a break from filming, “This movie marks my first foray into international markets, so I take this movie very seriously.” Kwon shot to fame with the 2003 TV drama “Stairway to Heaven,” and his recent film credits include “Destiny,” “More than Blue” and “71: Into the Fire.” Directed by pop lyricist Calvin Poon, “Repeat, I Love You” also features Taiwanese singer Angela Chang, Taiwan-based model Sphinx Ting, and Chinese entertainers Jing Tian and Jing Boran.
