MARS HILL and BRIDGEWATER – Earl Carlton Hoyt, 86, retired farm laborer/fork lift driver, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011, in Presque Isle. He had been a lifetime resident of Mars Hill and Bridgewater. Earl was born June 9, 1924, in Monticello, to Carlton John and Beatrice Hoyt.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Malcolm and Edward Hoyt; and sister, Daphine Antworth. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce (Benson) Hoyt; two sons, Eugene and his wife, Susan, of Wichita, Kan., and Robert and his wife, Velnita, of Fairbanks, Alaska; five grandchildren, Ted Hoyt, Mary Luckey, Jason Hoyt, Vanessa Webster and Robin Frerichs; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Francis of Oakland, Conn., and Albert of Mount Vernon; a sister, JoAnne Dewey of Mount Vernon; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill, with the Rev. Mark Carter officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service.
