PORTLAND and BANGOR – Frances Chaiken, of the Atrium, Portland, and formerly of Cape Elizabeth, passed away June 4, 2011, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Marvin Chaiken, to whom she was married for 61 years.
Fran was active with Portland Chapter of the American Red Cross for many years and as clerk on Cape Elizabeth voting days. Fran and Marvin lived in Queens, N.Y., Washington, D.C., and Cape Elizabeth. She enjoyed family gatherings and visiting with her many friends. She was a gracious hostess and was always interested in those around her.
Fran was predeceased by her son, Stephen Chaiken of New York City; and her daughter, Edith Welty of Frederick, Md., and Gorham. She is survived by and will be deeply missed by her son, Paul Chaiken and his wife, Debora, of Bangor; grandchildren, Alex and Emma, Jessica, Jennifer and Joel; and great-grandchildren, Julian and Alicia.
A private interment will be held at a later date at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta.
