GUILFORD – Thelma M. Harlow, 93, the daughter of Daniel A. Meade Sr. and Annie (Larry) Meade, who was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Gray Valley, Guilford, passed away peacefully June 4, 2011, with her three beloved daughters and granddaughter by her side, at Mayo Regional Hospital.
Thelma grew up in Foxcroft, was a Rose recipient of Foxcroft Academy and received her certified medical assistant license in her early 70s. Throughout her life, she worked at Guilford Woolen Mill, Hibbard’s Nursing Home and Hilltop Manor, where she finally retired in her 80s. Thelma’s life was devoted to caring for others, including taking care of several foster children. She married Kermit Harlow, in 1935, in Dover-Foxcroft and they were married for 43 years until Kermit’s passing in 1978. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Thelma’s family was her life. She and Kermit farmed for many years; growing vegetables, vealing calves and making many wooden creations, even with Kermit in a wheelchair for many of those years. Together, they did it all.
In addition to her beloved husband, Kermit, and her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her sister, Virginia Ruksznis; her brothers, Daniel Jr. and Lloyd; and her grandson, Timothy. She is survived by her three daughters, Carmen I. Smith and husband, William, of Dover-Foxcroft, Lois E. Lopez of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mary M. Limoges and husband, Francis, of Guilford; her son, Terry G. Harlow and wife, Carolyn, of Israel; her granddaughters, Angelique Phillips and husband, Chad, and their sons, Jacob and Zachary, of Virginia Beach, Va., Claudette and Brie Limoges, Lisa, Theresa and Melanie (Harlow); her grandsons, Chuckie, Ryan, and Derrick Limoges and Michael Harlow; 21 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Harold Meade of Dover-Foxcroft; her beloved niece, Betty Morrison of Dexter; many more family members and friends.
At Thelma’s request, a celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, at Rural Grove Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at
