MACHIASPORT – Darrell Johnson, 33, passed away unexpectedly June 4, 2011, near his home in Machiasport. He was born Aug. 31, 1978, in Machias, son of Paul Johnson and Cathy (Muzzy) Johnson.

Darrell was a graduate of Washington Academy, East Machias, where he became skilled in marine vocational education. After high school, he worked for Atlantic Landscaping, Jonesboro; Hinckley’s Boatyard, Trenton; masonry and most recently carpentry. He enjoyed tinkering with old trucks, watching films, listening to music, working outside and sitting by the campfire at Indian Cove. Most important in Darrell’s life was spending time with family and friends. He had a loving and generous heart, and cared deeply for others. He liked keeping tabs on everyone in the family, and one of his often-used expressions was “What’s goin’ on?” Darrell will be truly missed.

He is survived by his father, Paul Johnson; his mother, Cathy Johnson; his brother, Kurtis Johnson; his paternal grandparents, Carolyn and Allen Johnson; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Muzzy; an uncle, Douglas Johnson, all of Machiasport; a cousin, Ellen Smith of Phoenix; his cherished niece and nephew, Iris and Gage, and their mother, Bethany, of Machias. Also included are many extended family members; and his constant companion, Rufus. He was predeceased by his much-loved paternal great-grandparents, Darrell and Ruth Page; maternal great-grandparents, Clarence and Ida Wood; and his close friend and cousin, Neal Sprague.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at McClure Family Funeral Services, corner of Charles and Drisko streets, Machias. A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bucks Harbor Cemetery with Pastor Bill Holmes officiating.
