NEWPORT – Edward L. Nutter, 83, died May 12, 2011 at a Bangor hospital, after a period of ill health. Ed was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Plymouth, the son of Hurbert J. and Leola (Wyman) Nutter.

He was educated in Newport schools. At age 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Fleet. After his return from the war, Ed married Elizabeth Pinkerton, Aug. 20, 1948, in Knox. Ed worked at H.P. Hoods, Newport for many years as a plant division supervisor. He was a member of Barrows-Skidgel American Legion Post No. 105, Newport, and a member of Pittsfield Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Nutter of Newport; two sons, Roger Nutter and his wife, Lidia of Hereford, Ariz., Larry J. Nutter of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one daughter, Candy Perrson of Brewer; a brother, Gary Gray of Florida; a sister Barbara Bedard of Skowhegan; seven grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his daughter, Diane, April 15, 2005; and several brothers and sisters.

Graveside funeral services with military honors will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at the family lot in Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with the Rev. Ernest Campbell officiating.
