BREWER – Madolyn Margaret Hollis, 96, went to be with the Lord June 5, 2011, at an Orono nursing home. She was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Bradley, daughter of Edward and Prudence (Merrill) Violette.

She was a graduate of Old Town High School. In her early years, she worked alongside the “cussing” parrot at the Anchorage, Old Town, helping her aunt, Myrtle Hutchinson, and the Captain. She then became a private practical nurse at Taylor Hospital and Workman’s Hospital, Lincoln. Madolyn belonged to Brewer Eagles Club and was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. She loved to go “out,” whether to wrestling matches with “Peachie” at Dino’s, go shopping or just having coffee with her health aides.

She was predeceased by her husband, Linwood M. Hollis, April 26, 1960; and also a longtime companion, Eldon E. “Jim” Carr. She is survived by niece, Cindy Chabre and her husband, Ron, of Windsor Locks, Conn. She will be sadly missed by many dear friends, Peachie, Pauline, Donna, Rose, Terry and Geraldine, and so many others who enjoyed the privilege of her company. Many thanks go to the staff at Orono Commons and New Hope Hospice whose care gently guided her to the next step of her journey.

A burial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at Mount Hope Cemetery. All friends are asked to meet at the Superintendent’s Lodge, located by the State Street entrance 15 minutes prior to the service. Any contributions in her memory may be made to Animal Orphanage, 71 Airport Road, Old Town, ME 04468.
