CHANDLER, Ariz. – Mona Rae Markie, 78, formerly of East Millinocket, passed away May 15, 2011, with her family at her side. She was born Aug. 14, 1932, in Caribou.
She spent most of her years in East Millinocket with husband, Arthur and three boys.
A schoolteacher for 35 years, she inspired students first as a primary school teacher and later as a talented art teacher. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts as a hobby, and took great pleasure in sharing her work as gifts. After retiring Mona moved to Arizona to be near family. She loved animals, especially her two cats. Travel and looking at scenery were among her favorite things to do. An educator, artist and mom, Mona Markie touched many lives and was loved by all who knew her.
Mona was predeceased by her husband, Arthur. She is survived by her sons, Gary, Tracy and Craig; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at East Millinocket Cemetery with a gathering of friends and family afterward at Medway Middle School.
