CORINNA – Evelyn M. (Provost) Packard, 91, wife of the late of Charles M. Packard, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Maine General Hospital, Augusta, after a long period of failing health. She was born in Brockton, Mass., Sept. 27, 1919, to Elmer and Marie E. (Hanson) Provost.
She was a 1937 graduate of Brockton High School and had resided in Maine for more than 20 years. Mrs. Packard was a World War II veteran of the Woman’s Auxiliary Army Corps, stationed at Fort Myers, Fla., and at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. She achieved the rank of corporal. After her wedding, she and her family lived for a number of years in Brockton, Mass.; West Bridgewater, Mass.; Hampton, Va.; San Diego; and South Easton, Mass., as her husband, Charles’ company transferred the family as his job required. After the death of her husband, she fulfilled her lifelong dream to own and live on a farm, when she and her oldest son, Charles, moved to Corinna from Massachusetts. Evelyn had a great love of animals and kept horses and sheep on her rural Maine 50-acre property. Her favorite was her great horse, Aladdin.
In addition to her son, Charles of Skowhegan, she leaves her other son, Philip of Fall River, Mass.; and two daughters, Joanne of Massachusetts and Marie Blanchard of Skowhegan. She also leaves her brothers, Wilbur Provost and his wife, Florence, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Gordon Provost of Brunswick, and Walter Eldon Provost and his wife, Regina, of Sarasota, Fla.; her four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, mother and father, she was predeceased by her brothers, Richard, Paul, Elmer and Lester.
Visitors will be received 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Dexter, with the Rev. Kent Ouellette. Graveside committal services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 24, in the family lot next to her husband in the veterans section of Melrose Cemetery, Pearl Street, Brockton, Mass.
