DEXTER – Mary M. (Peakes) Graef, 87, passed away June 16, 2011, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. She was born Aug. 30, 1923, in St. Albans, a daughter of Thomas and Frances (Eaton) Peakes.
She, as a military wife, traveled throughout the world on various tours of duty. Upon returning to Maine, she sold Avon and published a MLS Maine listing service for local realtors and appraisers. Mary was an avid animal lover and supported many animal causes. She particularly enjoyed her dog, Robin; and cat, Kitless.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Major Lewis F. Ames; her second husband, M. Sgt. Jerry W. Graef, in 1993; a son, Frederick M. Ames; a brother, Thomas Peakes Jr.; and a sister, Elizabeth Houle. She is survived by two sons, Rexford Ames of Arizona and Randy Ames of Wyoming; two brothers, John Peakes and James Peakes, both of St. Albans; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
