BANGOR, Maine — A clerk at the Big Apple gas station and convenience store on State Street got nervous when three people in a silver car were hanging out near the store at 3 a.m. Saturday.
The clerk called police to report the suspicious behavior and the responding officers found Caleb Qualey, 29, of Houlton bent over the steering wheel of the car looking like he was trying to hide something, Bangor police Detective Sgt. Paul Kenison said.
“They removed a concealed knife from under the front seat where Caleb was sitting,” the sergeant said. “It was one foot long” and had a six-inch blade.
Qualey was arrested and charged with trafficking in dangerous knives. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and remained there Saturday afternoon, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
