ELLSWORTH and GOULDSBORO – Christine A. McHugh, 49, died June 28, 2011, at an Ellsworth hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer, her husband, Ed and close friend, Muggsy Britts at her side. She was born March 22, 1962, in Winchester, Mass., the daughter of George and Theresa (DiSarcina) Andersen.
Chris graduated from Winchester High School, and in 1980 she was the State of Massachusetts High School Women’s Doubles tennis champion and a Boston Globe All Scholastic. Chris was a graduate of Boston University School of Management. Her banking career, which spanned 17 years at Bay Bank Middlesex, Burlington, Mass., CambridgePort Bank, Cambridge, Mass., First Trade Union Bank, South Boston, Mass., and Citizens Bank of Massachusetts, Boston. Since 1999 she has been a self-employed real estate consultant, primarily with Boston Capital. She held a real estate salesperson license in Massachusetts and was an associate broker in Maine.
Chris was very proud of her not-for-profit accomplishments, which included chairman of Preserve the View Committee, Jefferson, treasurer and board member of Dorcas Library, Prospect Harbor, board member Schoodic Arts for All, Winter Harbor, former member of Acadian Community Woman’s Club, Winter Harbor, former member of Ladies Aid Society, Jefferson, and member of Corea Grange. Her many friends have described Chris using the following words: energetic, spirited, kind-hearted, welcoming smile, zest for life, gracious, spunky, loving, great sense of humor, a wonderful contribution to the world, and knowing her with her love of the outdoors and wonderful artistic flair has made our lives much richer. We will always love you and you will always be in our thoughts.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Ed McHugh of Ellsworth; parents; sister, Karen Bartels and husband, Richard; niece, Elizabeth Bartels, all of Winchester, Mass.; stepdaughter, Cara McHugh Avila and husband, Craig and their son, Ryan, of Pascoag, R.I.
Calling hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 1, with the Rev. Sara Haymen Huisjen officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Hancock.
