HERMON – John F. Anderson, 73, husband of 49 years to the late Marilyn K. (Kitchen) Anderson, passed away June 27, 2011, at his home, after a long and brave battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 6, 1937, in Bangor, the son of Harold and Harriet (Howes) Anderson.

John attended schools in Winterport and later Bangor. He joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was sent to Germany. John and his wife moved to Michigan, where he served a five-year pattern makers apprenticeship with GM in Saginaw, Mich. They then returned to Maine and purchased land in Hermon, where he had lived since. John was a former member of Hermon Fire Department and Rescue Squad, and drove school bus 14 years and worked in building maintenance. Earlier in his years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his past time he loved to play his guitar, 5-string banjo and mandolin. He and his wife loved bluegrass music and attended festivals throughout New England. John was a member of Ralph J. Pollard Masonic Lodge, Orrington, where he was senior deacon at the time of his death. He was also a member of Anah Shriners of Bangor where he was first lieutenant in the Drum and Bugle Corps, a member of the directors staff and a Divan representative to the Flag Unit and Drum and Bugle Corps. John was also a member of Burton-Goode-Sargent Korean War Veterans Association, where he served as president as well as vice president many times, and a member of the Masonic Service Organization, where he and Marilyn spent many hours at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor.

He is survived by his children, Brian Anderson and his wife, Chris, of Crestview, Fla., Alan Anderson of Hermon, Karen and her husband, Scott Wilson, of Carmel and Lois and her husband, Greg Fournier, of Hermon; two sisters, Sandra and her husband, Wendell Russell, of Brewer and Rachel and her husband, Earl Brazier, of Hermon; his brother, Bobby Anderson and his wife, Donna, of Tewksbury, Mass.; grandchildren, Stephanie, Tyler, Kaleigh and Garrett; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Snows Corner Cemetery, Hermon, with Pastor Carl Schreiber, of East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating.
