GUILFORD – Herbert Franklin Flint, 82, passed away July 4, 2011, at a Bangor hospital after a short ill-ness. He was born Feb. 27, 1929, in Monson, son of Franklin and Audrey (Davis) Flint.

He grew up in Elliotsville and always enjoyed being a country boy. He went to a one-room schoolhouse until eighth grade and then graduated from Monson Academy in 1946. In 1953, he married Dorothy Rollins of Sangerville and they had 58 years together. He worked for Portland-Monson Slate Co., Great Northern Paper Co. and 37 years for Haley Construction until time of retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War with the 370th Amphibious Engineers. He was a past member of Monson Men’s Club, Monson American Legion Post No. 116 and Monson Odd Fellows Lodge. He was also a 50-year member of Mount Kineo Masonic Lodge No. 109, Guilford, and a member of Stott-Flanders American Legion Post No. 165, Sangerville. He served for several years on the Guilford budget committee. Her-bert was dedicated to feeding his deer and birds, and spent many hours watching them in his backyard. He loved time spent at camp hunting, fishing and snowmobiling with his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and a son. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Guilford; a son, Dar-ryl Flint and his wife, Ramona; a grandson, Duane Flint, all of Dover-Foxcroft; two stepgrand-children, Justin Teachout of Greenville and Brigette Teach-out of Dover-Foxcroft; a great-stepgrandson, Logan Walton of Dover-Foxcroft; a daughter, Lorna Marshall and her husband, Bret, of Guilford; and two granddaughters, Jessica Crouse of Kennebunk and Jacklyn Crouse of Sangerville. He leaves two sisters-in-law, Barbara Cole of Dover-Foxcroft and Char-lene Deane of Millinocket; a brother-in-law, Maurice Rollins of Bellingham, Wash.; and several cousins.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with Masonic services said 7 p.m. A graveside memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, in the family lot at Lawn Cemetery, Guilford. A reception for family and friends will start noon Friday, July 8, at Mount Kineo Masonic Lodge, Guilford.
