HAMPDEN, Maine — Swimmer Cailynn Goss of Hampden is bringing home more than memories from the Special Olympics World Summer Games.
Goss, 22, won the gold medal in the 50-meter women’s butterfly on Sunday in Athens, Greece, with a time of 1 minute, 4.12 seconds, nearly 1.4 seconds ahead of runner-up Mariela Dominguez of Argentina.
It was the second medal for Goss, who was a member of Team USA 3 that captured the bronze medal on June 30 in the 50-meter medley relay.
Goss also earned a fourth-place ribbon on June 28 in her first event, the 100-meter freestyle. Her time of 1:45.81 was 1.25 seconds out of third place.
Goss was one of approximately 7,500 athletes from 185 countries who took part in the games, which concluded Monday with the closing ceremonies.
