EAST MACHIAS – Ernest Everet Graham Sr., 81, died July 11, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 29, 1930, in East Machias, the son of Harris and Verna (Berry) Graham.

After school, he proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After returning home, he worked for St. Regis in the woods, and was also a log driver on the river. He later worked as a truck driver for Edgar Foss, and then went on to work for 20-plus years as a diesel mechanic at Cutler Naval Base. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and loved working with his farm tractor.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Andrea; and siblings, Wallace, Louise, Ruth, Bernard and Edward. He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 58 years, Greta (Robinson) Graham; eight children, Bonnie Hammond of Florida, Ernest Jr. and friend, Holly, of Whitneyville, Ellen Small and husband, Stanley, of Greenville, Shirley McDougall and husband, Mike, of Virginia, Leatrice Sacco and husband, Carl, of Jacksonville, Carla Harmon of East Machias, Kevin and wife, Naomi, of East Machias and Mike and wife, Jennifer, of East Machias; a brother, Phillip “Teddy” and his wife, Ethel, of Southington, Conn.; 22 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 15, at McClure Family Funeral Services, corner of Charles and Drisko, Machias, with Pastor Bill Holmes officiating.
