CAMBRIDGE – Robert N. Bunker Jr., 73, died July 13, 2011, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital after a long, hard fought battle with leukemia. He was born April 12, 1938, in Cambridge, a son of Robert and Lula (Buzzell) Bunker Sr.
He graduated from Maine Central Institute, Class of 1956, and attended Tufts College for two years. He worked with his father at Bunker’s Garage, which he later owned and operated. He attended Cambridge Baptist Church. For many years, Bob served as town moderator. He was a member of Cambridge Masonic Lodge, the Shrine and Anah Campers. He loved his family and friends, and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, flying planes, motorcycling, building race cars and attending races. He especially enjoyed spending time with the Anah Campers and being involved with his community. In 2002, his first wife of 45 years, Sharon (Carr) Bunker died from breast cancer. In 2003, he married Nancy Gerald.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Mark, all of Cambridge; a daughter, Valerie Ripley and companion, Mike Farley, of Tremont; a sister, Marita and husband, Rodney Farrar, of Ripley; six grandchildren, one great-grandson, many beloved nieces and nephews; extended family, Debbie and husband, Fred Bushey, of Hartland, Vicki and husband, Ricky Morse, of St. Albans, and David and wife, Lorna Marson, of Cambridge; many grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and his special dog, Minnie. He also leaves behind Sharon’s family and many friends. He was also predeceased by his father; a sister, Elizabeth Folsom; an infant son, Robbie; and a great-grandson, Colin.
There will be no visiting hours at his request. A Masonic graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Cambridge Memorial Garden Cemetery with Pastor Lois Field officiating.
