BOWDOIN, Maine — Police say a 2-year-old boy was struck and killed by a car in the southern Maine town of Bowdoin.

Jordan L’Italien of Wales was struck Saturday evening while trying to retrieve a ball that had bounced across Main Street.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office told the Portland Press Herald the child was under adult supervision but broke free from a relative who had tried to stop him from running into the road.

The car was driven by 37-year-old Stephen Leppanen of Lewiston. Officials say no charges have been filed against him.
