EAGLE LAKE and STOUGHTON, Mass., – Hazel Belanger Cassidy Martin, 84, passed away July 20, 2011, at home, surrounded by her family. Hazel was born July 22, 1926, on Belanger’s Plantation, Wallagrass, the daughter of Cyril Belanger and Marie Charette Belanger.
On June 2, 1941, she married Lawrence Cassidy from Oxbow. They had six children and moved to Massachusetts in 1950, where she worked and raised six children. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence in 1967, and later, by her second husband, Ernest Martin of Wallagrass in 1984. Hazel worked throughout her lifetime as a homemaker, farmer, cook, home care assistant and laborer. Vivid memories of her upbringing along Route 11 and her family history live on in the stories she shared with her family. She was well known for her cooking and care giving, but she will always be remembered for her deep love of family and friends, and her infamous road trips, her generosity, and her hearty, contagious laughter.
Hazel is survived by her six children–four sons, Eugene Cassidy and his wife, Judy, of Lady Lake, Fla., Lawrence Cassidy Jr., and his wife, Odette, of Brockton, Mass., David Cassidy and his wife, Sheila, of Raynham, Mass., and Thomas Cassidy and his wife, Linda, of Minot; two daughters, Marie Chouinard and her husband, Donald, of Eagle Lake, and Linda Docekal and her husband, Steven, of Glenburn. She is also survived by 15 beautiful grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; a dear aunt, Pauline Belanger of Frenchville; a sister, Pearl Paradis of Chelsea, Mass.; a brother-in-law, Ernest Cassidy and his wife, Gloria, of Haverhill, Mass.; and many special nieces, nephews and friends. In addition, Hazel will be greatly missed by two very dear lifelong friends, Margorie York of Lewiston and Dorilda Martin of Fort Kent. She was predeceased by two brothers, Earl Belanger and William Belanger; and three sisters, Jane Page, Jeannette Bowden and Annette Ryerson.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent and 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Farley Funeral Home, Stoughton, Mass. Funeral will be held 9 a.m. Monday at
