BREWER and KENDUSKEAG – Joan L. “Joanie” Pelkey, 79, died peacefully Wednesday, July 20, 2011, in Bangor, surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 10, 1931, in Brewer, the daughter of William R. and Marjorie T. “Girlie” (Blackman) Street. Joanie was a graduate of Brewer High School and worked at the telephone company for 43 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Wendy Tate and her husband, Stacey, and their children, Blaine, Pamela and Jay, all of Kenduskeag, and with whom she lived for the past eight years and Cyndi Swazey and her husband, Pete, of Bucksport and their children, Cody Holyoke and his, wife, Lee of Milwaukee, Jon Holyoke and his girlfriend, Chelsea Gove, and their son, Brenden Holyoke, Jason Swazey and Mathew Swazey, all of Bucksport; two sisters, Catherine Dupray of Hampden and Beverly Paul of Kenduskeag; two brothers, Edward Street of Indiana and Raymond Street of Millinocket; one special niece, Sharon Paul; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Pelkey; her parents, a brother, William Street Jr.; a daughter, Laurie and a son, Bryan, whom she devoutly cared for until his death at age 15.

Family and friends may visit 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Brewer. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held afterward at the parish center.
